What do these amounts correspond to?
Most Moroccan administrative documents carry a fixed fee, paid by means of a revenue stamp. The amount depends neither on your circumstances nor on the processing time: it is the same for everyone, which makes the total easy to prepare in advance.
This calculator adds up the fees themselves. It does not count passport photographs, sworn translation costs, photocopies or travel – real items, but variable ones.
| Document | Fixed fee | Validity |
|---|---|---|
| Biometric passport | MAD 300 | 5 years |
| CNIE - first application or renewal | MAD 75 | 10 years (adults) |
| CNIE - duplicate after loss | MAD 100 | Remaining validity |
| Criminal record extract (bulletin no. 3) | MAD 20 | 3 months in practice |
| Birth certificate extract | MAD 20 | 3 months in practice |
| Signature legalisation | MAD 5 | Per document |

Example of a marriage file: birth certificate, certificate of single status, certificate of residence and criminal record extract, plus two legalisations. The total of the fees stays under MAD 100 - most of the cost is in time, not in money.
Validity is more constraining than price
Many of these documents cost almost nothing but have a short practical validity: three months for a birth certificate extract or a criminal record extract in most applications.
The classic mistake is to gather everything well in advance, then discover on submission that the oldest documents have expired. The right sequence is the other way round: obtain the long-validity documents first, and the fresh ones last, just before you submit.
From abroad, the rates change
Moroccan consulates issue most of these documents, but the fees are collected in the local currency on a consular scale of their own, which is not an exact conversion of the Moroccan rate.
Processing times are also longer, because applications pass through the central services in Morocco. For a passport or a CNIE, allow plenty of time, especially in spring: consular appointments become scarce as summer approaches.
Physical stamps or digital payment
The revenue stamp still exists in physical form, sold in tobacconists and tax collection offices, but more and more procedures accept – or require – online payment, notably for the biometric passport.
Check the expected method of payment before travelling to the counter: arriving with a paper stamp when the desk expects proof of electronic payment costs you a whole morning.
Frequently asked questions
Do these rates apply at consulates?
No. Consulates apply their own scale, expressed in the local currency and set by order. Check the website of the consulate you come under: the difference from the Moroccan rate can be noticeable.
Does a 10-year passport exist?
The standard validity is five years. Different durations exist depending on the category of applicant and on changes in the rules; ask when you submit rather than relying on older information.
What should I do if I lose it abroad?
Report the loss to the local authorities, obtain an acknowledgement of receipt, then go to the consulate with it. A travel document can be issued for an urgent return to Morocco while the duplicate is being prepared.
How many copies should I ask for?
Two copies of each civil status document for an ordinary file, more if several administrations are involved. At MAD 20 an extract, the saving is not worth a second trip.
